Black Bob was a Border Collie whose adventures started in The Dandy comic in 1944 - first as a text feature with spot-art. In 1946 The Weekly News (newspaper) started to release Black Bob as a strip feature - and later The Dandy followed suite. Between 1950 and 1965, eight Black Bob Christmas Annuals were released. As the covers of some of these books were so alike the only way of telling which year they were was by the back cover.

Jack Prout died in 1978.
