DescriptionThis appears to be one of the, if not THE, initial thought pattern Rick Griffin had for the world famous Bill Graham Presents concert poster #105 1968 held Feb 1 2 3 4 in San Francisco at the Fillmore and Winterland.The story goes the week after the June 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, which was Hendrix's first foray into the USA as Jimi Hendrix Experience, no one yet knew who he was. Hence, when they played Fillmore the following weekend was 4th billing in BGP concert poster #39. His management was pissed. To get him for his next concert series in San Francisco, Bill Graham asked Rick Griffin to come up with something spectacular. This is bonafide. The lady from whom I acquired this was "there" in the scene 1969-early 70s. She worked for a while in Gary Arlington's comic book store in 1969-early 70s. She knew all the artists who came thru. She is pictured in the rare Zap Mini comix Gary published. Gary also published Rick Griffin's Man From Utopia as well as All Stars #2 with its intense Griffin cover. Social/Sharing |
