DescriptionHere comes the Judgment !!!Title splash from the third Warlock pencilled and inked by Jim Starlin !!!! I'm getting closest to Heaven with this masterpiece that should be in a museum and to which I'll dedicate my life in order to preserve !!!! Now for the historical part !!! If you look at the white used on Warlock's head and torso, Pip's arm and the little card player you'll see that Jim altered the whole splash for one reason only : to change Goldie's old costume with the lightning bolt and horned torso armor to the most iconic cape and skulls !!! What I particularly like in Jim's comic works is the continuity in the ideas and I believe one can see a lot of Jim's creations in this crowd of aliens, like Sizygy could be walking next to Pip if you see what I mean ... The whole cosmic saga Jim achieved dwarves IMHO even George Lucas' Star Wars and these particular three first episodes in Strange Tales are the only comics pencilled and inked by Starlin before the tragic Death of Captain Marvel GN whose beautiful pages are fading, this is magic cosmic Starliny Goodness !!! Actually Allan Weiss helped a bit on this book inking four pages ( look add.pic ) and I guess the sudden change of costume may be a reason for some delay on the book, but I love the way Jim is playing on with the credits on the title splash !!!! In fact, I like every single detail of this page !!! Love the gaze between the card players, the alien crowd, the walls, the inking, the white-out, the words, the scroll captions, the era, the page's number, the heroes, the smell, Starlin's foresight, the guy who sold it to me ( and waited patiently !!! ), the tan, the size ...everything !!!! Even the cheap stat echoes with the white tone and is not as bad as it should look !! ( I'll never quite understand why putting cheap xerox stats glued on the art ? it will always look like a bad restoration to me ...) Finally, the little stat crediting Weiss on the back of the page hasn't been glued back on the art just above the copyright stat and I think that's for the better !!! I got the stat and the art is even more visible!!! My Warlock collection has never looked so wonderfully nice !!! Thanx Len Callo !!! You're the MAN !!!! Social/Sharing |

Congrats on an awesome Starlin splash my friend! I remember buying this comic off the stands thinking who are all of these people who worked on this comic until I realized it was a Starlin joke! Starlin did an outstanding job of inking his pencils on this issue. This issue, IMO, is one of his best artistically! Congrats on a fantastic addition to your already outstanding Starlin collection!!!

Outta this world! I can't believe I was only 13 when I bought this issue. I loved the cape, but still miss Warlock's lighting bolt! Sigh! I was always dying to see him smash Thanos & shout SHAZAM! LOL Congrads! WOW! Beautiful!

It is quite appropriate that this page features a Warlock, because it is, to paraphrase the great DD villain Bullseye "magic." There are so many cues in this page that show how seminal Jim Starlin's (or should I say, J.L. Minirats) art was from this period. Arguably, his art was the least seminal aspect of his work during this period as his writing bent the boundaries of comics and reality for all those who would follow. Congratulations Romain, I can only imagine how happy this page makes you!

I don't know very well Starlin's work but judging by this page it's one hell of an artist, beautiful art.

Len has owned some truly amazing pages in his art collecting career. And it's nice that he has begun to share the wealth with the rest of us. Love the credits on this page. A very clever and classic gag from the brilliant mind of Jim Starlin.
