Legion of Superheroes Homage to Flash Volume 2 Issue 209

Legion Races Part 3 ..is Ladies Day. This time up for your viewing pleasure ,its Dawnstar Vs Supergirl. The first two covers that we used as templates were iconic Flash Vs Superman images from the 1960's but there were suprisingly many more race covers to choose from. Since I admired and respected the art of the late Michael Turner, we chose one of his Flash covers for this commission.

Dawnstar is fast, really, really fast. I love one of the splash pages from the Earthwar Stories ( image is below ) that showed Dawnstar in a tight flight speed formation with Wildfire, Dawnstar,Ultra Boy and Mon-el, and she had no problem holding her own with the boys.

Supergirl (Kara Zor-el ) is a full fledged daughter of Krypton and in a super-speed class of her own. She is young, feisty and determined to prove her worth and earn her rightful place in both the 21st century and 31st century pantheon of heroes.

The excitement that this face-off generates amongst the Legion is incorporated in the presence of Comet Queen, Cosmic boy ( who with the addition of the logo is squeezed out slightly ) and Wildfire who we know is rooting for his lady love : Dawnstar.

Michael Netzer and Chris Ivy are truly amazing. I know I sound like a broken record ( Google the term if you are too young to understand the expression ...) but if you are thinking about a commission , talk to these guys ,they are so good to work with. Just check out the additional images of pencils , inks and alternate Legion Race logos I posted also and you see the amount of care, talent and passion they put into their work.

Back to the race. If it was taking place in outer space. I believe Dawnstar would be the winner but planetside although its a tough call and a tight race, the winner is SUPERGIRL.

However for those Dawnstar fans out there, we may yet have a rematch and to give Dawnstar her time in the spotlight, artist Greg LaRocque is working on a very cool Dawnstar trilogy
