Green Arrow #1 page 9

This little sequence has been on my want list for nearly ten years. I fell in love with it the moment I read it. What I look for when buying original pages is good storytelling above all else. And this little sequence is a gem.

These two pages tell a beautifully inspiring life lesson, wonderfully written by Kevin Smith. What’s possibly even more inspiring is the crystal clear storytelling of Phil Hester. This may look easy but a simple sequence like this is quite challenging to draw. Wonderful stuff. Plus, you’ve got the powerful inks by Ande Parks to top it off. Phil and Ande are a pair made in heaven and these pages are a prime example of that.

These pages have been in Kevin Smith’s private collection for ten years and have only recently been made available thanks to Kevin’s big Viewaskew garage sale. Fellow CAF member Duane Murray purchased the complete first issue at the auction and decided to only keep the final splash page. I didn’t think twice to take these two pages off his hands.

I couldn’t be happier to finally add this sequence to my collection.
