Description
Artist Prelim, gouache and pencil on paper. Signed by the artist. Prelim was dramatically different from the finished cover. Notice the key dangling into the lower green "stripe." Very, very few illustrations did that on Signet covers. Avati obviously planned to do so from the onset of the project.

Yup, he pretty much changed his original layout almost completely. It's very interesting that he was so dead set on keeping that 3-D effect of the keychain dangling outside the main image area and over the horizontal strip.
