Description
First up I have to say even if this had turned out badly, I still would have loved it. I post this piece on my birthday weekend as I recieved this lovely commision as GIFT from someone who is not just a talented artist but an all-around great guy, Trevor Von Eeden. That fact that it ROCKs is just the icing on the cake..

Trevor has done several Re-Legion pieces. We both have a fondness for Ferro Lad. This was one of his first commissions for me. It is a reworking of Aquaman Issue 49.

We both loved the Ghost of Ferro Lad story from the Adventure Comics era and the fact that Ferro Lad is so often featured in the Hall of Heroes. Couple this with a creepy Nick Cardy cover about store mannequins coming to life and we were rocking it. Then as often happens in life, it just got put on the back burner, other projects got in the way.

Fast forward and this great commissions arrives in the mail. I love the ghostly image of Ferro Lad bleeding into the logo. I love the creepy heroes Sultana Fox and Devin Darkk that he invented, The looming perspective on Ferro Lad is powerful as Star Boy and Dream Girl remain oblivious to what is going on behind their backs . Even the title " Legion of The Damned " has a great ring to it...

Its unusual, creative, creepy and cool..in other words a Trevor Von Eeden masterpiece ! And the perfect Birthday gift for a Legion of Superheroes Geek.

Please send me some of your creativity. Nice work. I'm just starting to appreciate Cardy.

Thanks for the kind comment Roy. Every Re-Legion cover is a fun process and often evolves as we work on it. I was a little suprised to discover this was in fact a Nick Cardy cover but it was fun to mix up two old Legion Adventure Stories that I love ( Issues 354 & 357 images above ) and give them a creepy Twilight Zone horror twist

Before I read your description, I was racking my brain trying to remember who Sultana Fox & Devin Darkk were! I thought maybe I had forgotten some crazy Silver Age story. Anyway, very cool piece and happy birthday!

Sultana and Devin are the 31st century descendants of the store mannequins...we wanted something suitable for the Hall of Heroes but that still evoked some of the sinister overtones of the original figures.

A fantastic commission by Trevor Von Eeden, with a striking atmosphere and lighting, as well as a dramatic composition.

This is truly spectacular---from the 'ghost' effect on the logo to the outstanding perspective, this one is perfection. I'd dearly love to be able to read this story off the spinner rack!
