Mystic Comics #6, 8 – 10 (March 1940 – August 1940)

After his father is murdered by gangsters, a young man travels the globe, becoming a master of all weapons and developing the skills he will need to meet any challenge he may face as he wages his war of vengeance on crime. Like Zephyr Jones, The Challenger made his debut in Daring Mystery Comics, but after a single appearance in issue #7, he made the jump to Mystic, where he met such challenges as the League of Crime, a "haunted house", a murderous half human ape and a serial killer dressed as a police patrolman. The Challenger's origin in Daring Mystery was attributed to "Nick Karlton" and his first Mystic Comics outing to "Al Bare", but Mike Sekowsky handled the art chores for most of the run.
