I've been an LSH fan since the earliest days of my comic collecting life. I got my first Adventure Comic featuring the LSH while sick with pneumonia in the 3rd grade and I've been hooked since. I own virtually every appearance from
Adventure 247 ($25 back in the day) to today.
The
Shooter/Swan/Klein era is remains my favorite art era, but the
Dave Cockrum, Mike Grell, and
Michael (Mike Nasser) Netzer runs contributed mightily to my love the team.
For my most recent birthday, Kathy commissioned Mike Grell. The way we work it is that I give here some ideas for artist/character combinations and the contact information. She makes the selection based on whatever criteria she prefers.
In this case, my Grell suggestion featured Mordru the Merciless against the White Witch backed by the duos of Dream Girl and Star Boy and Phantom Girl and Ultra Boy. Mordru has long been my favorite LSH villain (along with the Fatal Five) since he is clearly more powerful than any small portion of the team and perhaps the team as a whole. The two sets of couples are among my favorite Legionaires and I thought they tied together nicely. I was sorely tempted to use Mon-El and Shadow Lass instead of PG/UB, but I'm happy.
Great work by both Kathy and Mike, IMHO.
If you want a Grell commission or original art, checkout his section of
Scott Kress' Catskill Comic's website. Kathy says that Scott was an excellent communicator.
If you are a Mike Grell fan, you might enjoy my piece featuring
The Warlord and Tara.
