Description

So here's a story for you

One of the first books I ever read regularly was CyberForce. I absolutely loved that book. In fact I actually used to own 4 complete sets of the series to pass it on to people. I kind of like sharing comics I love and I know sometimes cash holds people (myself included) back from trying a series. So I gave the comics away with a 'pay it forward' kind of deal.

From the whole series, Assault with a deadly Woman (the first few issues of the series; see the cover to issue #4 in the Marc Silvestri gallery) and issues 26-29 are my all time favorites.

While Ripclaw isn't really my favorite character (that's a tie between Ballistic and Heatwave) there was a little backup story in issue 28 that caught my eye. I had never heard of the artist (turns out it was his first work) but for some reason I loved the bottom panel of Ripclaw.

This was also around the time I started buying comic art so with the enthusiasm of a 16 or 17 year old I just emailed Brian Ching through the TopCow Forum and asked if I could buy the page.

You should have seen my face when I got a reply and Brian told me I could have the page and he'd even cover the shipping. I don't quite know what I did to deserve that but needless to say I was super stoked. And he shipped it to Sri Lanka too. I still feel like I owe the man shipping.

I also ended up tracking down all but one of the rest of the pages. One of them is the unpublished version of page 5. The missing page 4 featuring Misery was on ebay years ago but I missed it.

So while Brian's style has changed a lot (still absolutely love his work) this little story is all about nostalgia for me. And I am super happy to own it and finally share it with all you people.

Great story (yours, not the CyberForce one)!!!!! I love it when collectors are able to acquire art that has such a personal meaning to them. I've always thought complete stories should be kept together anyways, but I know how the market works. It's just sad that when a dealer or collector buys a complete story at a good price then decides to make some money by breaking it up. Of course inevitably, another collector will come along who wants to put the story back together, but now has to pay so much more for the individual pages. Good luck finding page 4. I hope you'll be able to put this story together again someday!

I really love seeing pages together like this also, so I definitely hope you can find Page 4, it should be with you. Love this piece, love the mood, the inking is incredible!
