This is Page 24 from Issue #1 of Dream Boat of Romance from 1953. There is some kind of misunderstanding between two people and the guy not only straightens out the situation but HE PUTS HER OVER HIS KNEE AND SPANKS HER TO SHOW HER WHO IS BOSS! He spanks her right on the bottom, albeit with her dress and all petticoats on. He then announces that she is going to be his wife. He doesn't ask her, he tells her and she thinks that is the bee's knees! This is the happy ending!

Furthermore, this is a comic aimed at girls! It was also reasonably successful. Wow, it was a different world back then, I guess. My posting this piece does not constitute any endorsement of the behavior depicted or of the attitude toward male-female relations underlying it. It is shown for purposes of illustrating popular culture only.

I've been married for thirteen years. The next time the ol'lady has a misunderstanding with me I plan to use this techniquie to straighten her out. I'll keep you posted. I sure hope it works with maried couples in 2005.

Since my wife will never see this, and thus hand me a justly deserved beatdown, I'll go ahead and endorse the behavior depicted and the attitude toward male-female relations underlying it. No come-uppance for me!

There are Holiday heart throbs? I mean that is a problem?- brief affairs over Christmas? It is wonderful what you can find in 1950's (well any) romance comics!
