DescriptionAugust M. Froehlich : Classics Illustrated #38 The Adventures of Cellini Complete 52-page Story (Gilberton, 1947). Impressionistic linework, subtle character studies, and attention to historical costuming characterize the contributions of August M. Froehlich, an older artist who died in 1949 shortly after completing his last Classics Illustrated assignment, Black Beauty. The Cellini autobiography is the most concretely rendered of the artist's Gilberton efforts and provides a robust visual counterpart to the Florentine goldsmith's lively, self-aggrandizing memoir of life in Renaissance Italy. Thanks always to Bill Jones Jr and his mandatory book "Classics Ill. A Cultural History". Approximate image area of 12.5" x 18.5". A few word balloons are missing. Cellini is holding a scorpion.Social/Sharing |
