Big Wow Comicfest 2012, San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, CA. (My first out of state convention)
-Juanjo's first US appearance.

Though Juanjo is known for Blacksad, I saw that many people commissioned him to draw Blacksad, Alma, Natalia, Paulie, and all the other characters from the book, meaning that Blacksad is a generic character. I wanted something special and not usually asked as a commission.

In the book, there were scenes where Blacksad resembled the dark knight, especially in the scene from the 2nd book where Blacksad is atop a lamp-post, lurking in the shadows. I overheard Juanjo and the person in front of me in line, talking about those scenes in the story where it looked like Batman. Juanjo said he was greatly influenced by Batman, and that's why you could see the Batman influence in his work.

For that specific reason, instead of asking him to draw Blacksad, which was my original commission request, I was brave enough to ask Juanjo to draw me a Batman. He laughed joyfully after the guy in front of me, and Juanjo, were just talking about Batman and how the character influenced his book. I was also the only one at the show to ask for that request.

I was absolutely amazed when I saw the piece. Looking at it, you can tell how much Juanjo enjoyed drawing the commission. He even added an additional Gargoyle to the piece, which he doesn't usually do, at least when I saw other commissions, which were just full body characters, and no props or still-life. There were only a few including mine, where Juanjo added props and still-life to the character request.

The Batman also looks a little like John Blacksad, except you don't see his whiskers. John Blacksad dressed in a Batman Costume would've been a nicer request, but I'm happy with what I asked for. :)

Hope he comes back again to America for a 2nd appearance!
