YES, they could Thomas! As the 80's progressed, the art got even smaller than this until they eventually began phasing the art out altogether and the covers were filled with giant sized author names in fancy script, along with almost as giant-sized titles. This is exactly why I'm so passionate about the industry as it was during the 50's and 60's. With very few exceptions, the art was FULL BLEED and the cover copy was fit around the art. If only book publishing could do a 180 degree turn and go back to doing things that way....
