Jaime Hernandez - Love & Rockets #9 (1984)

Based on Maggie and Rena's experience, I'm gonna have to scratch Rio Frio off my list of vacation getaways!

This is the original art for the cover of Love and Rockets #9, which hit the stands in September of 1984. It is all art, completely executed in pencil and ink (and some marker too) by Jaime Hernandez.

In 2015 Heritage auctioned the 1991 reprint cover to issue #9, which featured a redrawn tunnel by Jaime, a blank space for the logo, and STATS of Maggie and Rena. In other words, the reprint cover sold by Heritage in 2015 has images of Maggie and Rena that are mechanically reproduced and original art for the tunnel. BEWARE: The reprint cover is being offered for sale by a dealer who should know better, but is claiming the stat on the reprint cover is original art, which is contrary to the Heritage auction description. Buyer Beware! Also, the dealer has taken efforts to ALTER the stat to make it look different, so they’re taking some unusual efforts to deliberately deceive.

Here is the link to the Heritage auction for the reprint cover. You’ll see the the stat matches the original images of Maggie and Rena. If you look at the reprint cover the “dealer” has for sale, he’s added a logo and ALTERED the stat from the Heritage auction.
