Description
John Romita Sr. is a master and a legend within the comic art field. This goes without saying. I had an opportunity to get a sketch from him at a con way back in 1999 and didn't because, well, I'm an idiot. Ok, really, it's more that I wasn't as focused on comic art at the time, but really it's because I'm an idiot. But that's the benefit of hindsight. At the time I did get a sketch done by John Romita Jr., although that was given to my best man and my upcoming wedding that year.

So in present day, and looking back, I have always regretted not getting some original art by John Romita Sr. Unfortunately most of the Amazing Spider-Man pages are a bit out of my current budget. Then I stumbled upon this page from 1993 that was done as a back up story in the Spectacular Spider-Man annual that year. No it didn't feature Spider-Man, Mary Jane, or even Peter Parker. It did feature The Prowler and Killer Shrike in a showdown, and also featured the Sons of the Tiger from the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu series. For a non Spider-Man page, I couldn't have asked for more. Sure it was from 1993 but it was John Romita Sr. with inks by Al Milgrom. It was a page featuring a dynamic fight featuring comic sound effects that I love so much; the "whoosh" in the middle being a perfect example. Signed by John Romita at the bottom corner. I was sold.

A special thank you to Mike Burkey here for working the deal with me on this page and allowing me to add it to my collection.

This takes a little bit of the sting of not getting a commision from Romita Sr. away. Only a little though.
