Maggie and Ray by Jaime Hernandez

I went to HEROES CON 2012 not planning to buy ANY art. None. I had plans to pick up some pieces that were already paid for, but nothing new. But, when I went and looked at Jaime's FOR SALE portfolio there were some great shots of many of the L&R favorites. There was even a shot of a young Hopy and Maggie. But for me, there was a shot of Maggie and Ray from now. Ray was sporting the scar from the events of last year's story, but they looked happy. I told myself, no. I had made a pledge to save cash and not buy art. When I looked again on Saturday, it was still there. I decided it was going to be one of those times when I would regret not buying something I loved. So I ran out to the bank machine and came back. Rico was standing at the table and I told Jaime that I wanted to buy the piece with Maggie and Ray. I mentioned how the story last year had made me almost cry. Rico called me out by saying "What do you mean almost?" I bought it and told Mr. Hernandez once again how much Maggie had meant to me in my life and how I was so moved by the bitter sweet happy ending. Jaime told me "They had to work for it." I guess that is what I love about Maggie...she shows me that you do have to work for it.
