Birthday 2010

I have long admired Irv Novick’s take on the classic Golden Age Cover (Pep 37) featuring the Shield. So when I passed on a chance to buy a Rudy Nebres cover this past summer, (because times are tight you know.) My wife offered to give me a commission for my birthday. We contacted Rudy who had done an outstanding commission of Adam Strange and Hawkman for Christmas and asked him to recreate the cover but in his own distinctive style.

The one thing I did ask was that Rudy correct any racially insensitive depictions of the soldiers the Shield was fighting. Rudy took the concept a whole step further and reimagined the cover depicting the Shield post, pole vault. I think it turned out great and as always you have to love art for your birthday!
