SKETCH CARDS

I am a longtime trading card collector and Sketch cards have really come in vogue lately. I love original art, but for the most part I don't collect sketch cards since mucht of the time, the artists, aren't really identified with the property they're working on (which is not to say that I haven't kept certain ones from such artists. Certain ones have become art world stars FROM sketch cards). . Even so, the card sets for which the manufacturers are able to commission sketch cards from the artists who were instrumental in the creation or original popularity of the subject the card set is comemmorating are the ones of the most interest to me. To that end, the two greatest sketch card sets of all time, where my interests are concerned, are the 1998 Skybox Marvel Silver Age and 2001 Inkworks Simpsons Mania sets, both of which included actual Marvel Comics Silver Age artists and prolific Simpson TV show directors, respectively, drawing the majority of the sketch cards found in the packs. Sealed packs and boxes are long gone on both and what remains are the approximately 2,200 Simpsons sketch cards and the 12,000 Marvel Silver Age Sketchagraphs (but only a portion of those were by the legendary Silver Age Bullpen artists as several new artists worked on the set). There are examples of those classic drawings in this gallery along with other favorites I've accumulated over the years. I've had MANY more of these original art cards from many different sets, but I was only able to keep the cards I really enjoyed, for practical reasons. Hopefully, you can see why I kept these!
