From Sorrow to Hope
In this gallery are the pictures that make up my art piece From Sorrow to Hope. The contributing artists are Darry Banks who did the pencil and inks for the original commission and Tom Smith who colored it. The framing was done by Mark Plyler of Picture Perfect in Lancaster, SC. I gave him a tough idea and he came through beautifully for me. This piece was born shortly after my wife Margaret died as a result of Breast Cancer. It reflected my sorrow (as seen by the Green Lantern Kyle Rayner facing the statue named "Sorrow"), and the hope that she had for me that I would find peace and love again after she was gone (behind Kyle is the symbol of the Blue Lantern Corps which uses Hope as their energy source). I gave Darryl a very vague idea that was pretty much, "I want Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern in his original costume and the statue "Sorrow" as seen in issue #99 in the piece." I also told him of Margaret's passing and where I was at that time. The rest of it is pure Darryl. His vision exceeded any expectations I may have had. With this piece he gave me more than a work of art, he gave me something that lifted me when I was in a deep, dark place. It lifted me enough to keep me from drowning in my own sorrow when I was alone in the middle of the night. It hangs on my wall as a becon and a reminder that no matter how deep my sorrow may ever get, Hope still exists and is still with me.
