ADAM WARREN Dirty Pair layouts and studies

      Adam Warren has expanded his social media outreach with EmpoweredComic twitter,sexy superhero comedy (or not) tumblr, adam_warren_art instagram, and started putting Empowered Comic online with commentary.
      Science fiction writer and Studio Nue founder Haruka Takachiho created the Dirty Pair for animation and novels. Kei and Yuri are trouble consultants for the World Welfare Works Association. Their official code name is Lovely Angels, but the extensive damage they leave in their wake lead to their unwanted nickname. In Japan, Dirty Pair animation started in the 1980's. At the Kubert School in New Jersey, first year student Adam Warren saw the show on video and wanted to turn it into a comic. Toren Smith had made good contacts with the Japanese companies and acquired the rights to some Japanese manga titles. His Studio Proteus converted the manga pages into the American format and turned it over to their American comic publishing partners. Smith brought Warren's presentation materials to Sunrise, producers of the Dirty Pair animation. After being turned down, he approached Takachiho himself who gave his approval to a license for an American comic. Smith and Warren wrote the first three Dirty Pair mini-series together with Warren drawing the comics. Warren took on the writing duties entirely with the fourth series.
      In the late 1980's, I was reading fewer superhero stories, but still loved reading comics. With the increasing availablity of English language manga from Eclipse, Viz, First, Dark Horse, and other companies, I was hooked by the first wave of high quality Japanese work. I picked up Dirty Pair as part of this new trend. Adam's improving artwork kept me following his work as he moved around to Bubblegum Crisis, Teen Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone, Gen 13, and other projects. Ultimately, he's created Empowered, his sexy superhero comedy.
      Toren Smith passed away in March 2013 and is remembered by Jonathan Clements, Mike Hansen, and Anime News Network's Michael Toole. Links found from Adam Warren's twitter page. In a simpler summing up, Toren Smith gained the trust of Hayao Miyazaki and Masamune Shirow to present their work to the English-reading public.
