Meddick, Jim

Robotman was a comic strip that hit all of the notes for me. Jim Meddick's wonderful drawing style was only surpassed by his excellent writing. I have a vivid memory of being in Japan during the late 1980s, and reading Robotman in the Asahi Shimbun, the English language newspaper. Jim has a storyline about Robotman being taken in by the old sea monkeys comic book advertising, falling for "naked crustaceans". Hilarious stuff. When I returned to the States, I wrote Jim, asking about buying an original from that storyline. Unfortunately, he didn't receive the originals back from the syndicate, but very nicely sent me the drawing seen in this gallery. And it was only this year that I was finally able to add a Robotman daily strip to my collection.
