MAD MAGAZINE - STAR WARS
Generally speaking I stay away from prequel related art. In the case of these 5 MAD covers I broke my rule. George Lucas has all of the original Star Wars covers from the 70s and 80s. There was one cover in the late 90s that another collector owns and will not part with (for any reasonable amount). So if I wanted to own a Star Wars related MAD cover these were my only options. Once I decided to take the plunge I found 4 of them rather quickly still in the possession of the respective artists and the last piece I needed I found here on CAF. There is one more cover from Revenge of the Sith by Mark Fredrickson. But Fredrickson, who does the majority of the modern covers, works 100% digitally. With no new cover art coming on to the market and MAD (Warner Brothers) having auctioned off their archives these seemed like the best choices. The images are iconic and I do enjoy seeing them every day. I like to think that they are lampooning movies I don't really care about so I can sleep at night.
