Italian artists - Tabet Giorgio
Giorgio Tabet (Genova, 1904 - Cecina, 2002) inizierà la sua carriera nel mondo dell'illustrazione nell'estate del 1917 dove realizzerà delle copertine con motivi floreali sotto la guida di Giulio Cisari. A partire dagli anni '20 lavorerà su Lidel, La Domenica del Corriere e il Secolo XX. Nel novembre del 1926 si trasferirà a Milano, dove dividerà lo studio-abitazione con il noto pittore Michele Cascella. Da quel momento in poi lavorerà per L'Ambrosiano, Il Guerin Meschino, L'Illustrazione Italiana; famose saranno le sue copertine per i Gialli Mondadori, per i classici del romanzo, della collana Omnibus, e Le Scie sempre per Mondadorì. Dalla metà del 1938, per via delle leggi razziali promulgate dal regime fascista, non potrà più firmare i suoi lavori. Nel 1940 lascerà Milano e si rifugerà, fino al 1944, a Castelluccio di Norcia per sfuggire ai bombardamenti e alle persecuzioni. Nel 1945-1946 collaborerà con la Domenica del popolo e dal 1949 riprenderà a illustrare la Domenica del Corriere. Nel 1946 e '47 si cimenterà nel fumetto a mezzatinta per il settimanale Luna Park, un emulo di Grand Hotel. Collaborerà anche con gli editori Garzanti, Salani, Vallardi, Fabbri. Negli ultimi anni si dedicherà soprattutto alla pittura, prediligendo il ritratto.
