Patricia Tourret Illustration and Strip Art
Patricia Tourret is not really well known ion the US. Born in London in 1929 and classically trained at Harrow Art School, she became a freelance illustrator following WWII. However, she is best known (and primarily in Europe) for creating the daily newspaper strip Tiffany Jones with writer Jenny Butterworth. The strip appeared in the Daily Sketch and Daily Mail from 1964 to 1977 and dealt the life of a high fashion model and was one of the very few strips in England drawn by a woman. The strip was eventually syndicated worldwide and led to a (rather bizarre) film in 1973. During her career Tourret also drew for British girls' comics and illustrated children's books and educational books. Her two sisters, Gwen and Shirley, were also talented and had careers as both illustrators and comics artists.
