Comic Con Art - Heroes Convention 2017

2017 was my first Heroes convention. I had always heard about how great it was for art and compared to all other conventions I have been to, I would have to agree. Artists are there to create and sell their art. There were no comic art dealers selling art so everything was new and from the artists which is fun but not the venue to pick up vintage art. The most important part of all conventions is meeting up with other collectors and artists. A highlight for me was meeting up with long term friend and collecting mentor, Wally Harrington. As much of a gentleman in person as I have come to know him online. I got to hang out with Benno, met Ben H for the first time and I had lunch with Miki, Aidan and David of LOSH fame. I was also invited to sit on an original art collecting panel with Felix and Daniel Warren Johnston which was a lot of fun too.

Heroes is also know for its art auctions. I did participate but didn't end up winning anything. There was a pop-up RUN DMC show before the Saturday night auction. I had not realized but Daryl from RUN DMC is a big comic fan and now a creator and so he was there promoting his books and did a performance of "It's Tricky" and "Walk This Way". It was almost surreal.
