My wife again this year generously offered to get me a commission for my birthday this year so my second though after saying “thank you” was, what Justice Society type commission can I do this year?
It occurred to me that although identified as married we never actually saw a story about the wedding of Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle (whom I should point does not get enough love from DC.)
After that making a decision on how to come up with a layout was pretty easy. I quickly remembered two wedding covers from the Silver Age, one featuring Batman and Batwoman marrying and the other featuring Blackhawk and Lady Blackhawk exchanging vows.
Blackhawk easily won out because I could see greater opportunity to position Justice Society characters extending well wishes to the happy couple.
The next step was reaching out to the only artist I thought of for this commission and happily Jerry Ordway said yes.
