Hugo D'adderio
Hugo D'Adderio was born in Rosario in the province of Santa Fe. He spent most of his childhood in Buenos Aires, where he also attended the Manuel Belgrano National School of Fine Arts. He published his first work at the age of 17 in a local evening paper. This led to further publications in the magazines published by Editorial Columba. From 1945 he was present in magazine Intervalo with stories like 'Miguel Strogoff' (1945), 'Crimen y Castigo', 'Los Miserables' (1946), 'Hamlett y Rey Lear', ambas de 1947, y posteriormente 'Cyrano de Bergerac', 'Los Novios' and 'Rojo y Negro'. With writer Jorge Claudio Morhain, he created the character 'Poncho Muerto'. D'Adderio mainly worked with pen and brush, but on some occassions he made wash drawings, like in his 1953 album 'La Ajorca de Oro'. For many years, he was the cover artist for magazines like Fantasía (from 1950), Fabián Leyes and El Huinca. He also illustated comic stories for the latter. He produced 'El Niño y la Música' and other educational sections for Billiken from 1959, and he was one of the first teachers at the Pan-American School of Art. D'Adderio has also done agency work for European publishers. His art appeared in several British girls' comics of the 1980s, such as Debbie, Misty, Tammy and Jinty. He also drew horror comics for the German magazine Gespenster Geschichten, published by Bastei Verlag. He has additionally illustated literary works like 'Hamlet', 'King Lear' and 'Cyrano de Bergerac'
