Empowered finished pieces by ADAM WARREN

      Adam Warren has expanded his social media outreach with EmpoweredComic twitter, sexy superhero comedy (or not) tumblr, adam_warren_art instagram, and started putting Empowered Comic online for free with commentary. Adam Warren Patreon
      Heidi MacDonald of Publishers Weekly gave a plug to the online serialization in her Comics Beat website. She wrote: "Empowered isn’t for everyone…but it is for a LOT of people. Adam Warren’s pastiche on manga is billed as a “sexy superhero comedy” and that it is, but it’s also a long running story with a lot of heart and characterization that propel it far beyond mere cheesecake comics. And with nine volumes (!) in print from Dark Horse, Warren is looking to get a new audience by starting to serialize the first few books online for free, along with commnetary."
      Adam Warren started drawing Dirty Pair comics written by his friend Toren Smith. He assumed writing his own comics doing more Dirty Pair, Bubblegum Crisis: Grand Mal, Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone, Gen 13 Bootleg (Grunge: the Movie), and Magical Drama Queen Roxy. He's written Marvel's Livewires and Iron Man: Hypervelocity for other artists with some of his own contributions. He wrote the main Gen 13 comic series starting with Gen 13 #60. Adam drew the initial story "Behind the Power" as a pseudo documentary.
      Empowered volume 1 debuted in March 2007 from Dark Horse Comics. It comes in the graphic novel format of some 250 pages rather than the traditional monthly comic. Adam has taken the low self-esteem theme he explored in Gen 13's Roxy and made a whole new comic. The heroine Empowered, Emp for short, gains her superpowers from a supersuit. However, the suit is fragile and her powers diminish as it tears under the stress of fighting. Emp is a member of the Superhomeys team, but suffers a great deal of abuse at their hands, especially from Sistah Spooky. Thugboy is Emp's boyfriend and Ninjette is her best friend. The first issue was followed by volume 2 in Sept. 2007, volume 3 in March 2008, volume 4 in Oct. 2008, volume 5 in June 2009, volume 6 in Sept. 2010, volume 7 in May 2012, and volume 8 in Dec. 2013.
      Dark Horse collected the first three volumes into the Empowered Deluxe Edition Volume I hardcover in February 2012. This book includes over 30 pages of supplemental material. The second set of three paperback volumes was collected in Empowered Deluxe Edition Volume II in August 2012 with some 25 pages of supplements.
      Adam has supplemented the Empowered volumes by writing traditional floppy comics with a few of his own black and white pages as framing pieces for color pages drawn by guest artists:

      Empowered: Extra Sketchiness sketchbook was published by my brother's Stuart Ng Books for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. Adam signed across the aisle at our friend John's Flesk Publications booth.
