MY COLLECTION - Musicians
Music, in my life, is even more important than comics and original art, thus mixing both interests was a natural. Curiously, my first ever piece of original art came from a musician.
Early IQ covers always got me wondering how could a man draw that many dots to compose an image so, one day (way, waaay before the internet and even faxes), I got in touch with Peter Nichols -frontman and cover artist for the NWOBPR seminal band- and asked him for a portrait of the band he was then playing in, Niadem's Ghost, thus laying the fundations for a collection I'd start assembling almost a decade later.
The first portraits I started collecting were those of Frank Zappa (https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=151797) but I later started commissioning Swedish artist Robin Gnista for different musicians and I also received a Lemmy portrait as a 50th b'day present from my then buddy Tom Porta. Later on I also got in touch with metal giant Tom Gabriel Fisher (Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Triptykon) to purchase a couple of his Self (Deceased) concrete portraits.
Next on the list are another couple pieces by Robin Gnista: Tony Iommi and Hawkwind-era Lemmy.
