This incredibly detailed, pencils only page is the work for the amazing Geof Darrow and comes from the first issue of the series he created with writer Frank Miller, Hard Boiled, a mini-series for which they won the 1991 Eisner Award for Best Writer/Artist. This series, which was first from which Darrow drew wide acclaim is set in an apocalyptic version of Los Angeles. The story focuses on Carl Seltz, an insurance investigator who discovers that he is, in reality, a homicidal cyborg assassin. As the title implies, the series is noted for its grim brutality and this art is a stark example. This page looks back at the creation of Seltz and includes dozens of scientists surrounding the cyborg, who is in a pose inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. Darrow also includes some of the most complex machinery we've ever seen on a comic book page.
