Berlin was one of my top 2 reads of 2020. In an insane year of near non-stop comic reading, Berlin stood out in every way. It's so meaningful in how much the conditions of the downfall of the Weimar Republic echo everything about America in 2020. The polarized political atmosphere along with growing wealth inequality, while at the same time most people can go on with their daily lives, really hit home to see how close we could be to such radical change to our norms. This book is a masterpiece with Lutes dedicating over 22 years of his life to its creation and completion. He manages to integrate numerous, compelling and emotional, individual narratives with the historical backdrop in a way that will stay with you far beyond your time reading. Highly recommended to anyone that is a fan of this great medium we all love. The art in the gallery is almost every page from the final chapter of Book 1. This chapter climaxes with the May Day protests and subsequent massacre of communist protestors. It is an extraordinary bit of narrative art bringing together numerous threads to set both shock the reader and set up the 2nd third of the book. I am currenty missing 3 pages from chapter (listed below as wanted). If you ever come across them, I would greatly appreciate it if you could message me.
