Richard Guindon (1935-2022) had a long and varied career, working for The Realist, The Nation, Playboy, The Detroit Free Press, and most famously, the Minneapolis Tribune. Guindon began his self-titled cartoon series for the Minneapolis Tribune in 1974. At first it appeared three to four times per week, then became a daily in 1978 when it was picked up by the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. In 1981, the syndication was moved to Field Newspaper Syndicate, and then in 1984 to News America Syndicate. Guindon moved to Traverse City, Michigan in 1986, setting up his studio soon thereafter. In August of that year, his studio building burned down and Guindon lost 30 years worth of work, over 5000 cartoons. The studio fire is why there are relatively few Guindon originals to be found.
