Lynde, Stan
Stan Lynde (1931-2013) is most well known for his western strip, Rick O'Shay. The strip started on April 27, 1958, one week after Ferd Johnson's western strip, Texas Slim ended. Johnson fully took over Moon Mullins in 1958 after Frank Willard passed away, even though Johnson had already been drawing the strip for years.
Lynde's work on Rick O'Shay started out in a more cartoony style, much like Texas Slim, but as time went on, the strip became more realistic in its approach. Lynde drew Rick O'Shay until 1977, when he left the strip due to a contract dispute with the syndicate. He went on to draw Latigo from 1979 to 1983, later publishing a weekly panel, Grass Roots.
In December 1990, Stan Lynde's house in Billings, Montana burned down, destroying all of Lynde's original art and proof sheets. That is the main reason why Lynde's work remains relatively scarce today.
