Michael Jason Paz is one of the numerous young talents hailing from the Philippines. His work first caught my eye when I saw a Wonder Woman piece he did here in the CAF galleries. It took a little hunting, but I was able to track him down.
I threw a bunch of different ideas at him and he emailed me back a bunch of prelims...though calling them prelims doesn't really give justice to how nice they were. He really spent some time on them!
I remember reading Daredevil #241 and immediately noticing the artwork really standing out as something special. When Amazing Spider-Man #298 hit the stands, I instantly recognized it as the same artist who'd caught my eye back in that issue of DD. Then of course ASM #300 came out and everyone soon began singing the praises of Todd McFarlane. To me, he was that new guy that drew a single issue of Daredevil. It happend again with a single issue of The Incredible Hulk...#268 if memory serves. Wow...something new. Something daring. Something terrific. Who was this guy? ...Sam Kieth. There something exciting about discovering new talent. Perhaps it's because I live in Los Angeles, and everyone is hoping to be discovered, or perhaps discover the "new Dicaprio" or the "new Brad Pitt". It's fun. It's exciting. It's like you're in on a secret before the rest of the world.
I think I've found the "new Todd McFarlane"...maybe even better - Michael Jason Paz. I think these new commissions may be his ASM #300.
