V for Vendetta
Original artwork by David Lloyd and bluelines by Siobhan Dodds. V for Vendetta is one of my favourite comics. It's also interesting to collect the original artwork as it shows some of the stages that the comic had to go through to be completed. The early inks have had to be extended at top and bottom to change the format from that used in Warrior magazine to that used by DC comics. The original Warrior version was in black and white but DC wanted colour so Siobhan Dodds and Steve Whittaker were brought in to provide the moody watercolours. The original inks were copied onto cartridge paper to form the blueline and the artists then put the colours over this. An acetate with the original lines on is then placed over the watercolours to view the completed picture. The bluelines are about 2/3 the size of the original art. I'm pretty sure that all my bluelines are by Siobhan Dodds. I picked up my first blueline from Comic Showcase back when it was still in Neal Street. The rest I have picked up from eBay over the last few years, as I had the money and as they became available. The original inks also came from eBay, fortunately just after I got a pay rise! David Lloyd has signed some of the bluelines at signings for the V for Vendetta movie and his latest work Kickback at Forbidden Planet. He's a very nice man and has plenty of time to talk to fans. I spoke with him for a while about the process of creating V. I'm looking forward to the next signing.
