Lan Medina - Fables #4 Prelims

Unlike the prelims Lan created for Fables 1,2,3,5,7(yes, Lan created prelims for the first 12 pages for issue 7, even though Mark Buckingham drew the issue and Lan's prelims would go unused),12 & 13, which were two story pages per 8" x 11" sheet of paper, the prelims for issue 4 were drawn full size (11" x 17"). Another difference between the prelims for issue 4 and his other issues is the degree of finish and detail. With the exception of issue 4, the other prelims were extremely loose, many pages with figure outlines.

Why Lan created larger, tighter prelims for this issue is a mystery to me, but the end result is a rare behind the curtain look at the creative process.
