I have to say that the Rawhide Kid is my favorite Marvel Western character. I think it might be because it was one of the first books I owned as a child. The shoe store where my parents shopped gave away free comics to kids, one time I got a copy of JLA 6 and another time Rawhide Kid 18. Before I realized Kirby was Kirby I knew that the action in this book was just terrific and well the Rawhide Kid’s outfit would have fit right in on any of the many TV westerns that were on the air at that time. I bought the books as a kid although truth be told many of them were purchased with half the cover torn off for a nickel but I certainly enjoyed each and every one of them. When Jack left and Larry Lieber took over I still enjoyed the book even though it wasn’t Kirby and the mostly black outfit evolved into a denim blue look. For the life of me I could never understand why Larry changed the hat from the original Kirby design and why Dick Ayers great western artist that he was refused to draw the hat like Kirby after his work in Rawhide Kid 36 and 38.
