Emilio D. Rodriguez is one of the country's most talented artists. He was one of the first Filipino artists who worked for American comics when he illustrated short stories for Treasure Chest comics in early 70s. Emil had undergone a full academic education in Fine Arts and graduated at the University of the Philippines. He also studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan, as a Fullbright/Smith Mundt scholar, and obtained a Masters Degree in Fine Arts. He taught at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts and Architecture. Remarkably, Emil defeated the more veteran artists when he won the SPIC(Society of Philippine Illustrators and Cartoonists) Contest in 1960.
