Felipe Echevarria: Death portraits

Felipe Echevarria was born in March of 1959 in San Diego. His first serious art training was the Joe Kubert School of Comic Art. Since then he has worked many areas in commercial and fine art. Most notably he painted a 3-issue comics adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho' and an issue of the new 'Dark Shadows' TV series for Innovation Publishing. He completed many paintings for the Clive Barker Imajica card game and did black and white stories for Caliber's Negative Burn and Kodansha's Comic Morning (Japan). As a represented illustrator he painted for many companies. As a fine artist he had his work displayed in galleries and has participated in group and two-man shows. He taught painting, figure drawing, and comics classes for many institutions, including the Loveland Academy of Fine Art, and the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. He studied comic art with George Pratt, Adam Kubert, Ron Wagner, Jose Delbo, Irwin Hasen, and of course Joe himself, all at the Kubert School. He studied painting with Burt Silverman and David Leffel. His work is in many collections in North America and Western Europe.
