I've always loved the energy often found in preliminary work, and have picked pieces up from time-to-time. There have been some cases where I've enjoyed the prelim more than the finished work. Rare, but it happens. When talking with artists, one of the things that I've often heard is how difficult it is to maintain the energy found in a prelim, when it comes to the finished work. I think that's due to the spontaneity inherent in a preliminary piece. The artist isn't so concerned with perfection, but in working stuff out.
