Swarte, Joost
Pilier de l'underground hollandais, Swarte est né en 1947 à Heemstede. Inventeur de l'expression "Ligne claire", dont il est le chef de file incontesté, il avoue avoit été d'abord influencé par Willem et Crumb. Etudiant en "industrial design" à la fin des années 60, il s'oriente vers la peinture et commence à publier dans des magazines underground. En 1971 il crée le magazine Modern Papier, qu'il abandonne au numéro 9 pour aller dessiner dans Tante Leny presenteert. En 1973, il fonde Cocktail Comics, pour un numéro seulement. Certaines de ces bandes seront reprises en France dans Charlie. A la fin des années 70, il dessine pour les enfants les aventures de "Coton et Piston" et, avec Willem, Ric et Claire. En 1980, il publie son premier album en France, L'art moderne. Il se consacre ensuite à la réalisation de portfolios, cartes postales, timbres, couvertures et pochettes de disques. Lauréat de toutes sortes de prix, il participe à un nombre incalculable d'expositions dans le monde entier. Texte © Casterman
