Marvel's 1970s books may read better now than they did at the time. Never quite able to get the lightning of 1963/4 back in the bottle, Marvel seemed unsure how to go ahead. Entertaining as the books often were (Marvel Two-in-One was usually a hell of a lot of fun), the House of Ideas had been coasting on reputation for a while. NOVA, Omega, The Human Fly never seemd to capture the grandeur that was Marvel. All that said, Marvel continued to demonstrate a superior standard in art, which meant that this discerning 12 year old often passed on DC books. Given that prices on these have steadily soared through the last 12-18 months, I'm guessing I'm not the only mid-30s collector assembling pieces of his childhhood.
