Peter Klashorst original full name is Peter van de Klashorst (Santpoort, 11 februari 1957). He is a Dutch artist and specializes in painting portraits and photographing. He is fascinated with the women naked beauty. After finishing his high school in Haarlem. He went to study at the famous Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (1976-1981). During the ’80 Klashorst one of the upcoming new talents in the Dutch art scene, because of his creativity. He belonged to the “New Youth ” art scene. The “NewYouth” painted their expressive paintings in bright, intense colors and with quick, broad brushstrokes. In 1983 he got a Royal price for his work (Koninklijke Subsidie voor de Vrije Schilderkunst). In 1987 he was one of the founders of a new “art collective” After Nature. They wanted to go back to the roots, where it all started. Their motto was paint what you see and forget everything else. Their main subjects where: still life, portraits, nude portraits and landscaping. In 1995 the group dissolved. Klashorst kept on surprising his audience with his creativity but also with his unruly life style. Obsessed with the naked beauty Klashorts went to Africa. Where he painted and photographed many African beauties. He even became a father and has two daughters and one son. In 2000, his artwork caused him a lot of problems. In Senegal (primarily Muslim), he end up in custody of the police for some weeks. He was suspected of taking advantage of prostitution, inciting debauchery, and the production of obscene pictures, because he had painted local women in the nude. By bribing officials, he managed to buy his freedom, and he sneaked into Gambia to flee the country. On another visit in 2003 he was also deported from Gambia for pornographic paintings. In 2005, King Klashorst, an authorized biography, written by Robert Vuijsje, was published. An extensive biography will also be published about his art, ideas, and life on the 25th anniversary of Peter Klashorst as a painter in 2007.
