Classics illustrated #86 (Gilberton, Aug 1951). Under Two Flags by Ouida ( Marie Louise de la Ramee ). Painted cover by Alex A. Blum and interior art by Maurice Del Bourgo. The posters are from the 1936 movie adaption with Claudette Colbert as Cigarette. By a stroke of luck, I managed to come across 19 pages of the 44-page Classics adaption, one of the finest stories that Del Bourgo drew. Originally Cigarette was a cross-dressing young man, but was altered by Gilberton to a beautiful young woman, probably a wise choice given the times. The Princess may be cute, but Cigarette is the real heroine of the story, which the movie posters also prove.
