Classic 2000AD #7 Cover

This was bought for what I still consider a bargain price from Colin MacNeil himself back in 2003. I'm still not sure why he still had such a beautiful painting that was seven years old at that point but I was the happiest comic art collector in the world that day!

It's special to me because although I had been a life-long comic reader the Chopper story "Song of the Surfer", which was originally published in 2000AD #'s 654-665 (1989-1990), was the first thing to ever leave a lasting impression on me. The story was written by Judge Dredd co-creator John Wagner and beautifully illustrated by Colin MacNeil and I just loved it... so much so that it was the first time I ever bought the trade paperback of something I already had all the issues of (which, for a teenager on a budget, was a big deal)!

The issue that this cover is from was another reprinting of the classic story for which Colin MacNeil painted a new cover of Marlon "Chopper" Shakespeare (and, in my humble opinion, it's probably the best Chopper cover he did... so I really lucked out)!
