DescriptionKirby's art, while carried by his knack for breakneck action, was often sketchy during this era, but this page is filled with all the little lines and details that Mr. Ditko must have known would never show up on the printed page as clearly as he drew them due to the technology of the times. However, that is the essence of Steve Ditko. He really never gave less than his maximum effort. I look at those little details on this page all the time, and see the lampshades in the Parker's residence, the blinds, the filing cabinets of the Daily Bugle, the tie patterns and wrinkles on the clothes of the men and women who worked there. This was as real as a superhero comic book could get. The Fantastic Four may have been the model on which most Marvel's books would come to be based, but no other book at Marvel or DC had a hero as ordinary, as essentially like you and me, as Peter Parker. |
