DescriptionWilliams was a prolific cartoonist in the early 20th C, with various and popular strips under the general branding of "Out Our Way." One of these was "Born Thirty Years Too Soon" - a nostalgic look at the early 1900s from the perspective of the 1930s, often with the older dad figure bemoaning progressive and/or non-he-man values. This same fellow in the same pose is featured on the cover of the 1945 "30 years" collection, upset over a female relative carrying a child who announces she has filed for a divorce. Here, dad is upset that his son is interested in the "sissy game" of tennis and not interested in a real man's game, football. |
