Description

As a person who read all these books as a kid, one of the things I like (a lot) about the MCU is how it finds ways to honor the legacy of these characters while not getting bogged down by literal canon. The decisions are, in general, really smart and agreeable. Black Widow was introduced in Tales of Suspense #52 as an Iron Man villain, and five issues later, she recruits Hawkeye to her cause. Hawkeye appears twice more as an Iron Man villain (Suspense #60 and #64) before he is recruited to the Avengers in the big line-up change that also brought in two former Evil Mutant Brotherhood members, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. We have all come a long way from Budapest. Well, maybe not. This issue marked the first appearance of the Sons of the Serpent, a violent group of racists that attacks both foreigners and Hank Pym's new African American collaborator, Bill Foster.
