DescriptionIn 1950 one of my all time favorite movies came out... "Harvey" was it's name. It was a delightful tale of Elwood P. Dowd who was thought to be insane simply because he was happy, cheerful, and found great happiness helping others. Of course the fact that his best friend was a giant, 6 foot, invisible, talking, white Pooka Rabbit named Harvey, didn't help that assertion much. While there is a charm to the movie to this day, as an adult now I do see the dark side to the story. While eminently charming, the movie is a biting commentary on alcoholism, mental health care, and the stereotypes associated with it. The artist is Jimmy Stewart! Who better to draw the rabbit than the one man who saw him most! |
